Fenot Associates Social Services PLC (Fenot Associates) is an Ethiopian company working in health and other development sectors. As part of its expanding portfolio, Fenot Associates is establishing a pharmaceutical import and distribution business and seeks a qualified, experienced pharmacist to serve as Technical Manager.

Position Summary

The Technical Manager will provide technical and regulatory oversight for Fenot Associates' pharmaceutical import, storage, distribution, and related operations. The position will ensure that the company's pharmaceutical activities comply with Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) requirements and applicable laws, directives, standards, and good practices.

The Technical Manager will serve as the responsible pharmaceutical professional for the company's pharmaceutical import and distribution operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Technical Manager will:

  • Lead and oversee the technical and regulatory aspects of the company's pharmaceutical import and distribution activities.
  • Ensure compliance with EFDA requirements and applicable national laws, directives, standards, and guidelines governing pharmaceutical importation, storage, distribution, and sale.
  • Support the company in obtaining and maintaining its Certificate of Competence and other required regulatory authorizations.
  • Oversee regulatory documentation related to pharmaceutical importation, distribution, storage, and product handling.
  • Establish and oversee implementation of appropriate quality assurance systems and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure compliance with Good Storage Practice (GSP), Good Distribution Practice (GDP), Good Documentation Practice, and other applicable standards.
  • Oversee pharmaceutical inventory, distribution, sales, and supply management systems to protect product quality, safety, and efficacy.
  • Provide technical oversight of the pharmaceutical warehouse and work closely with the Warehouse Manager to ensure proper receipt, storage, handling, dispatch, and documentation of medicines.
  • Ensure appropriate storage conditions, including monitoring of temperature, humidity, cold-chain requirements where applicable, security, and product segregation.
  • Ensure appropriate management of expired, damaged, returned, recalled, quarantined, or otherwise unfit pharmaceutical products.
  • Establish and oversee procedures for product complaints, recalls, quality defects, adverse reactions, and other pharmaceutical safety concerns, including reporting to EFDA when required.
  • Ensure that controlled medicines, where applicable, are stored and managed according to regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and oversee regulatory and technical records required for inspection and compliance.
  • Prepare or oversee job descriptions and technical responsibilities of pharmaceutical personnel and provide appropriate technical orientation and training.
  • Serve as the primary technical focal person for EFDA inspections and regulatory matters related to the company's pharmaceutical operations.
  • Advise Fenot Associates management on pharmaceutical regulatory requirements and compliance risks.
  • Perform other pharmaceutical regulatory and technical responsibilities required by EFDA and Fenot Associates.

Salary and Benefits: Negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Pharmacy from a recognized university.
  • Valid professional registration/license from the appropriate Ethiopian regulatory authority.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant professional work experience as required for a Technical Manager of a medicine import and distribution organization.
  • Eligible to serve as Technical Manager under current EFDA requirements.
  • Must be available for immediate deployment
  • Able to provide documented evidence of relevant work experience and, where applicable, release/clearance documentation from previous employers.
  • Must not concurrently serve as Technical Manager or Warehouse Manager for another pharmaceutical importer or distributor where this would conflict with EFDA requirements.

Preferred Experience and Competencies

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Previous experience in a pharmaceutical importing, wholesaling, distribution, manufacturing, regulatory, or supply-chain organization.
  • Experience in establishing networks, partnerships, and marketing
  • Practical knowledge of EFDA regulations and pharmaceutical regulatory processes.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical product registration, import permits, regulatory submissions, or EFDA inspections.
  • Knowledge of GSP, GDP, quality assurance, pharmaceutical supply-chain management, and inventory control.
  • Experience developing or implementing pharmaceutical SOPs and quality-management systems.
  • Good documentation, reporting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment on regulatory and pharmaceutical matters.
  • Good computer skills and proficiency in relevant electronic documentation and regulatory systems.
