Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a pioneering organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of obstetric fistula and the improvement of maternal health in Ethiopia. Founded on the principles of compassion and excellence, HFE is committed to restoring the health, dignity, and hope of women affected by obstetric fistula through comprehensive treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and reintegration programs. One of HFE's key initiatives is Project Zero, which aims to achieve the eradication of obstetric fistula woreda by woreda, ensuring that no woman suffers unnecessarily from this preventable and treatable condition.

HFE has already launched and implemented Project Zero in selected areas of the country and is now planning to expand the program to Eastern Ethiopia, Somali Region, Erer Zone, Fiq Woreda. To support the successful implementation of this program, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is seeking to recruit an experienced and qualified candidate for the position described below, in accordance with the specified job title and responsibilities.

Project Zero background

Project Zero is a woreda based comprehensive maternal health and obstetric fistula prevention initiative aimed at eliminating untreated obstetric fistula through community awareness, early identification, strengthened maternal healthcare services, mentorship, surveillance, and system strengthening. The project works closely with Woreda Health Offices, health facilities, communities, and Hamlin Fistula treatment centers to improve maternal health outcomes and ensure sustainability. This project started as a pilot project in 2023 in Ale and Didessa woreda in South western Oromia, Illuababor, Seharti in Tigray, Fedis woreda in Eastern Oromia, Semen Bench woreda in South Western Ethiopia, currently rolling out in Arbegona in Sidama and Gutazer Gedebano Welene woreda in Central Ethiopia.

 Job Summary:

The team leader will lead and coordinate the overall project- Zero, Fistula eradication program in collaboration with Project Zero officer and PZ manger and nearby Hamlin Fistula center. The team leader is expected to actively engage in planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of operational and financial deliverables related to the woreda level activities. In addition, he/she will also be involved in providing technical support for the team as deemed. This position also requires design and implement quality improvement approaches as well as analyze current trends in service delivery, training and capacity building approaches that are based on scientific evidence.

Major Duties and Responsibilities of the team leader includes the following, but are not limited to:

• Serve as the main technical interface for HFE-project zero at the woreda level
• Leads the planning and implementation of the project in line with the organization’s mission, policies, strategies and available resources.
• Coordinate the woreda level PZ team and provide technical support in consistent manner.
• Ensure strong monitoring and evaluation are in place to monitor the performance of each team members for collective successful completion of the project.
• Work in close coordination and collaboration with Hamlin near by center managers and staffs.
• Ensure the house-to-house survey are undertaken as per the plan and support the data collection process.
• Lead the awareness creation campaign and activities at the community and house to house level.
• Efficiently manage the Project resources and ensure value for money
• Work in close coordination and collaboration with woreda stakeholders, community structures and influential
• Work closely with technical steering committee and organize the steering meeting on consistent manners
• Oversee and work with the team and motivate them to conduct their activities efficiently through planning and providing daily activities for the team.
• Prepare analyses, recommendations, briefing notes, and assessments of the project in relation to delivery.
• Anticipate and provide timely solutions for the identified challenges during the project.
• Address inefficient performances and provide timely feedback, as a team or individually, to improve the gaps.
• Work in collaboration with the Health Centers where Hamlin Midwives are deployed to support aspects of the strategic direction and leadership of the maternal and child health programming guiding linkages and integration within the overall health sector.
• Coordinate meetings with Project Zero officers and manager to provide regular updates on progress of achievements against set targets, program challenges and successes, as well as ways forward for on-going implementation.
• Be involved in analysis of data collected during project implementation to obtain evidence-based trends and follow program progress against set targets;
• Lead and support the team to utilize data for informed decision making on program direction.
• Provide any technical support to Midwife mentors, woredas health offices and other stakeholders in the prevention of obstetric fistula, identification and referral of fistula patients and facilitate their treatment.
• Submit timely report of the project, patient identification and progress of the project strategy, to concerned body when necessary.
• Explores best mechanisms and make ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project.
• Actively participate in Fistula Patient Identification Process, in collaboration with patient identification officer and other stakeholders in awareness creation, strengthen the existing referral system, and facilitate their treatment.
• Ensure proper documentation and share success stories
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the project Zero officers or PZ manager.
