Key Roles & Responsibilities

Inventory Planning and Forecasting:

  • Lead the team in developing and executing inventory plans to meet demand without overstocking or understocking.
  • Use historical data, sales forecasts, and market trends to anticipate demand and optimize inventory levels.
  • Collaborate with sales, production, and procurement teams to align inventory plans with business needs and customer requirements.

Inventory Control and Optimization:

  • Monitor stock levels and track inventory movements (incoming and outgoing) to ensure accurate and efficient inventory management.
  • Ensure that inventory turnover rates are optimized to reduce holding costs and minimize excess stock.
  • Implement strategies to improve stock accuracy, such as cycle counting, regular stock audits, and advanced inventory management software.

Supply Chain Coordination:

Coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure smooth procurement processes and timely replenishment of inventory.

  • Work closely with logistics teams to ensure timely and cost-efficient transportation and storage of goods.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers to negotiate lead times, delivery schedules, and terms of service to optimize inventory levels.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, train, and motivate a team of inventory planners and controllers, ensuring they understand inventory control practices and align with company goals.
  • Set performance targets for the team, conduct performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative and solution-oriented environment within the team to improve processes and achieve organizational objectives.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze inventory data, key performance indicators (KPIs), and trends to make informed decisions regarding inventory procurement and stock management.
  • Prepare and present regular inventory reports to senior management, highlighting inventory status, discrepancies, and potential risks.
  • Use data-driven insights to recommend improvements in inventory processes, cost-saving measures, and performance optimization strategies.

Process Improvement and Efficiency:

  • Continuously assess and improve inventory management processes to reduce costs, improve stock turnover, and minimize waste.
  • Implement or recommend the adoption of technologies and systems, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), to streamline inventory management.

Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Identify and address potential risks related to inventory, such as stock outs, obsolescence, or supply chain disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards regarding inventory storage, safety, and reporting.
  • Develop and enforce inventory control policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to best practices.

Collaboration with Other Departments:

  • Work closely with procurement, sales, finance, and production teams to ensure alignment between inventory levels and business goals.
  • Collaborate with the finance team on cost control, inventory valuation, and auditing.

Requirements

Required education and skills

  • A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is typically required. Or
  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on supply chain management or operations management is beneficial for senior-level roles.

Working Experience

  • 4-6 years of experience in inventory management or supply chain operations, including some leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in inventory planning, stock control, demand forecasting, and data analysis in a logistics or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to manage inventory databases and reporting systems, as well as experience with various inventory management technologies.
