Job Overview
The Storekeeper is responsible for the day-to-day management and physical operation of the single-site store/warehouse. This is a hands-on operational position responsible for receiving, unloading, checking, storing, picking, counting, loading, and dispatching goods accurately and efficiently. The Storekeeper supervises the Assistant Storekeeper, maintains stock accuracy, applies FIFO/FEFO, and ensures proper documentation and housekeeping.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving & Unloading
- Receive incoming goods against approved purchase/delivery documents.
- Participate in unloading and physical handling of goods.
- Check quantities, item codes, batch numbers, expiry dates and visible product condition.
- Identify and report shortages, excesses, damages and discrepancies.
- Ensure received goods are properly recorded and moved to the appropriate storage area.
Storage & Put-Away
- Organize and execute proper put-away of received goods.
- Maintain designated storage locations and clear product identification.
- Apply FIFO/FEFO principles as applicable.
- Ensure safe stacking and efficient use of storage space.
- Segregate saleable, damaged, expired, returned and quarantined stock.
Picking & Dispatch
- Pick goods according to approved orders/picking lists.
- Verify item, quantity, batch and expiry before dispatch.
- Prepare orders for loading and dispatch.
- Participate in loading vehicles and ensure goods are handled safely.
- Complete and maintain dispatch documentation.
Inventory Control
- Maintain accurate physical stock records.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and physical stock counts.
- Investigate and report stock discrepancies.
- Prepare stock reconciliation information.
- Monitor near-expiry, expired, damaged and returned goods.
- Ensure all stock movements are recorded in the ERP/system where applicable.
Store Organization & Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, orderly and well-organized store.
- Keep aisles, access points and emergency routes clear.
- Maintain proper labeling and location identification.
- Optimize storage space and product arrangement.
- Participate in housekeeping and physical store activities.
Supervision of Assistant Storekeeper
- Allocate daily tasks to the Assistant Storekeeper.
- Supervise receiving, put-away, picking, counting, loading and housekeeping activities.
- Ensure proper stock handling and adherence to FIFO/FEFO.
- Train and guide the Assistant Storekeeper on store procedures and safety.
- Report performance, attendance or disciplinary issues to the Warehouse Supervisor.
Safety & Security
- Follow and enforce store safety procedures.
- Ensure appropriate PPE is used where required.
- Report accidents, damages, unsafe conditions and security issues.
- Control unauthorized movement of stock.
- Ensure the store and stock are properly secured.
Reporting
- Prepare daily receiving and dispatch information.
- Prepare stock discrepancy, damage/return and expiry reports.
- Prepare stock count and reconciliation reports.
- Prepare stock adjustment requests where required.
- Submit regular store activity and KPI reports to the Warehouse Supervisor.
Authority
- Allocate daily tasks to the Assistant Storekeeper.
- Organize daily store activities.
- Control physical movement and placement of stock.
- Conduct stock counts and investigate discrepancies.
- Stop movement of damaged, expired, or questionable stock.
- Recommend stock adjustments and corrective actions.

Requirements
Qualifications & Competencies
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Store/Warehouse Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- 2+ years of store/warehouse experience; FMCG, distribution or import-related experience preferred.
- Inventory management, physical store operations, FIFO/FEFO, ERP/WMS, basic Excel/reporting, stock reconciliation, team supervision, organization, attention to detail, physical fitness, problem-solving and communication skills.
