About the Organization

Tamra for Social Development Organization (TSD) is a local Civil Society Organization established in 1998. TSD operates across Addis Ababa, Oromia, Sidama, Central, and Southern Ethiopia, focusing on youth empowerment, peace building, gender development, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), climate justice, and sustainable livelihoods.

Position Summary

The Social Worker will be responsible for supporting individuals and communities through direct services, advocacy, counseling, community mobilization, and referral services. The position holder will assess community needs, support the implementation of community-based activities, facilitate engagement with stakeholders, and contribute to improving the wellbeing and resilience of community members.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments to identify the needs, strengths, and challenges of individuals and communities.
  • Identify and document community resources, service gaps, and referral options.
  • Support the planning and implementation of community-based programs and activities.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with community members, leaders, government offices, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide appropriate individual support, counseling, and referral services.
  • Facilitate support groups, workshops, training sessions, and community meetings.
  • Conduct community mobilization, awareness-raising campaigns, and other project-related activities.
  • Support community participation and empowerment initiatives.
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate community volunteers when required.
  • Monitor program activities and contribute to the achievement of planned objectives.
  • Collect and organize relevant data for program planning, monitoring, and service improvement.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit regular activity and progress reports.
  • Document success stories, best practices, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate with relevant service providers and stakeholders to ensure appropriate support and referrals.
  • Maintain professional ethics, confidentiality, and respect for the rights and privacy of clients and community members.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Community Development, or related fields.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years (up to a maximum of 5 years) of relevant work experience in an NGO/CSO or community development setting.
  • Experience working with communities, vulnerable groups, and diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in counseling, case management, community mobilization, or referral services.
  • Good understanding of social work and community development principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, counseling, and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct community assessments, identify service needs, and facilitate training sessions.
  • Good report writing, documentation, and record-keeping skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness and ability to regularly travel and conduct fieldwork in Bishoftu.
  • Language: Proficiency in both Amharic and Afaan Oromo is required; English communication skills are an added advantage.
