Role Overview
The Senior Research Officer (SRO) at Ethio Capital Solutions (ECS) is a senior member of the research and advisory team, responsible for leading and executing high-quality research initiatives that directly inform investment strategies and advisory services. Reporting directly to the Chief Research Officer (CRO), the SRO plays a critical role in delivering robust research outputs, mentoring junior researchers, and ensuring the firm's research standards meet the highest professional and regulatory benchmarks.
As ECS navigates a transformative phase in Ethiopia's capital market landscape, the SRO will drive the execution of comprehensive research programs that support investment decision-making, regulatory compliance, and client advisory services. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the quality and depth of Ethiopia's investment advisory research while advancing within a fast-growing, high-governance environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research Execution and Leadership
Lead the design, execution, and delivery of sector-specific and macroeconomic research projects in alignment with the firm's research agenda set by the CRO.
Supervise and mentor research analysts and junior officers, ensuring quality, consistency, and professional development across the team.
Develop and maintain research methodologies, templates, and quality assurance frameworks under the guidance of the CRO.
2. Advisory Services Support
Lead project-based research teams on client mandates, ensuring seamless coordination and timely delivery of advisory outputs.
Support the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and governance frameworks pertaining to advisory services.
Ensure strict adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices across all research and advisory activities.
3. Client and Product Support
Support end-to-end client onboarding processes by conducting detailed KYC, suitability assessments, and investment research in collaboration with the compliance team.
Maintain quality control across all client-facing materials, including proposals, prospectuses, research reports, and advisory documentation.
Drive operational readiness for new advisory product launches through rigorous market analysis, financial modeling, and implementation support.
4. Research and Reporting
Oversee the production and distribution of periodic investment research reports, market commentaries, and client reporting systems to ensure timely and accurate information delivery.
Lead the generation of various periodic research reports and facilitate their dissemination through digital platforms, including the firm’s website and other appropriate channels.
Ensure the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations and sustainability practices into research and advisory frameworks.
Champion the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation initiatives within the firm's research and advisory services.
5. Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain enduring relationships with clients and stakeholders (e.g., ECMA, ESX, independent legal advisors, auditors) grounded in fiduciary standards.
Support business development initiatives, strategic partnerships, and corporate engagement strategies through high-quality research inputs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify new product opportunities and maintain competitive market positioning.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
CISI Level 3 certification is required. Additional professional certifications such as CFA (Level I or above) or FMVA are highly advantageous.
Minimum 7 years of experience in financial services, capital markets, investment banking, or regulated financial institutions, with proven hands-on research and/or advisory service engagement.
Excellent analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient report writing and presentation skills.
Strong working knowledge of AI applications and emerging technologies, with ability to adapt to rapid technological evolution.
Ability to work in a fast-growing, high-governance environment.
Stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
Strong knowledge of the Ethiopian financial market and products.
Proficiency in financial valuation and investment analysis.
Experience in data analytics and modeling.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
