Job Title: Senior Import Officer

Job Summary
The Senior Import Officer is responsible for managing the company’s import operations, ensuring compliance with Ethiopian customs regulations, and overseeing logistics for imported goods. This role requires strong expertise in international trade, supply chain management, and regulatory compliance. The officer will coordinate with government offices, suppliers, and internal departments to guarantee timely and cost-effective import processes aligned with company goals.
Key Responsibilities
Import Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement annual import plans aligned with company objectives.
- Provide technical and logistical input for tenders requiring imported goods.
Customs & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all imports comply with Ethiopian customs laws, tariffs, and international trade regulations.
- Act as the key liaison with government offices for import licensing and regulatory matters.
Logistics & Supply Chain Oversight
- Manage shipping schedules, freight forwarding, port clearance, and inland transportation.
- Coordinate with suppliers and freight agents to guarantee smooth delivery.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain accurate import documentation (contracts, invoices, bills of lading, customs clearance papers).
- Submit periodic import reports to management.
Financial & Risk Management
- Monitor import costs and assist finance with payment schedules and foreign exchange requirements.
- Identify risks such as supplier delays, regulatory changes, or shipping disruptions, and propose contingency plans.
Market & Policy Monitoring
- Track global market trends, government incentives, and import policy changes relevant to EVs, machinery, and coffee industry inputs.
Requirements
Job Specifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics & Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in import operations, preferably within the manufacturing or export sector.
Knowledge:
- Strong grasps of Ethiopian customs laws, tariffs, and import licensing requirements.
- Familiarity with international trade agreements and tender processes.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in preparing and verifying import documents.
- Understanding of foreign exchange, payment terms, and cost monitoring.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
