Job Description

1.  Company Overview & Role Purpose

OPIAN Information Communication Tech PLC (Opian Tech) is a fast-growing technology solutions provider based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We are seeking a highly analytical, proactive, and dual-skilled Senior Accountant & Head of Operations to oversee our full financial management cycle and streamline essential day-to-day corporate operations. This leadership position is ideal for a seasoned financial professional who excels in operational workflows, compliance, and strategic resource allocation in a tech-driven enterprise.

 

2.  Key Responsibilities

A.  Financial Management, Accounting & Internal Controls

Full Cycle Accounting: Manage and supervise the entire accounting cycle, including general ledger maintenance, revenue recognition, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and monthly bank reconciliations.

Treasury & Cash Management: Oversee petty cash funds, cash advances, employee reimbursements, physical cash counts, and robust supporting documentation verification.

Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management accounts, and executive financial commentary in compliance with local regulations and IFRS.

Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead corporate budgeting, rolling cash-flow forecasting, variance analysis, expense monitoring, and project profitability evaluations.

Audit & Internal Controls: Establish, refine, and enforce internal financial policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Direct annual external audit preparation and serve as the primary focal point for auditors.

B.  Tax Compliance & Statutory Obligations

Tax Declarations: Prepare, review, and file all monthly and annual tax declarations (VAT, Withholding Tax, Income Tax, Pension, and Business Profit Tax) via the Ministry of Revenue (MoR) portals within statutory deadlines.

Payroll Processing: Manage monthly employee payroll calculations, tax withholdings, pension contributions, and timely salary disbursements.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to Ethiopian tax proclamations, commercial laws, labor laws, and foreign exchange/trade regulations.

C.  Operational Administration & Team Supervision

Procurement & Vendor Management: Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiation, service-level agreements (SLAs), and cost-effective procurement of office hardware, software licenses, and administrative services.

Office Administration & Facilities: Ensure smooth daily office workflows, facility management, asset tracking, and maintenance of legal, corporate, and vendor records.

Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior finance, administrative, and operations personnel, fostering high performance, integrity, and accountability.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field from a recognized university.

  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressive, hands-on experience in accounting and corporate finance, with at least two (2) years in a senior, supervisory, or managerial role.

  • Tax & Statutory Knowledge: Demonstrated, expert-level understanding of Ethiopian tax laws, Ministry of Revenue procedures, payroll taxation, and statutory compliance.

  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with modern accounting ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, QuickBooks, Peachtree) and advanced MS Excel skills.

  • Operations Oversight: Proven experience managing office administration, procurement contracts, or general business operations alongside core financial duties.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Professional Certification: ACCA, CPA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification (completed or in advanced stages).

  • Industry Experience: Previous financial and operational experience within technology companies, ICT consultancy, or project-based professional service firms.

  • Financial Standards: Practical familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) implementation.
