Job Type; Full Time
Job Summary
The Batching Plant Mechanic is responsible for the mechanical integrity, installation, service, and repair of all heavy machinery and moving equipment within the concrete batching plant facility. This role ensures minimal downtime by executing routine preventive maintenance, inspecting wear-and-tear components, troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and performing crucial welding or fabrication tasks to preserve production capacity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machinery Maintenance & Overhauls
Mixer Servicing: Inspect, adjust, and replace high-wear components inside the central mixer (such as twin-shaft or planetary mixers), including mixing blades, arms, scrapers, and polyurethane/cast iron wall liner plates.
Conveyor Systems: Maintain belt conveyors, deep-bucket elevators, and screw conveyors. Splice belts, track alignments, and replace worn rollers, idlers, pulleys, and heavy-duty bearings.
Drive Systems: Monitor, align, and service heavy-duty gearboxes, couplings, drive chains, and sprockets. Ensure proper oil and lubrication levels across all mechanical power transmission units.
2. Pneumatic & Hydraulic Systems
Actuators & Gates: Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic cylinders and mechanical aggregate gates that control material discharge loops.
Compressor Units: Perform routine service on industrial air compressors, including checking filters, monitoring oil pressure, and fixing airline leaks or faulty moisture traps.
Hydraulic Systems: Maintain hydraulic power packs, directional control valves, high-pressure hoses, and rams utilized in tilting mixers or heavy discharge chutes.
3. Structural Repair & Fabrication
Welding & Cutting: Execute high-quality arc (SMAW) or MIG welding repairs on worn aggregate bins, chutes, hoppers, and cement silos.
Hard facing: Apply wear-resistant hard facing material via welding to surfaces highly prone to continuous friction from sand, gravel, and stone abrasive forces.
Part Refurbishment: Fabricate minor brackets, guards, and structural enhancements as needed to improve machine safety and operational workflow.
4. Safety & Plant Integrity
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): Strictly adhere to LOTO safety protocols before entering any mixer drum, conveyor zone, or enclosed silo workspace.
Housekeeping: Keep work areas clean, clear grease/oil spills quickly to prevent hazards, and maintain the mechanical workshop tools in optimal condition.
Requirements
Education & Certification
Degree or Diploma or Certificate: ITI, Vocational, or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Mechanics (Millwright), or a related technical trade.
Welding Certification: Valid structural welding certification (e.g., AWS D1.1) is highly valued/optional/
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience specifically within a ready-mix concrete batching plant, quarry, cement plant, or heavy aggregate handling facility.
Proven experience overhauling large industrial planetary or twin-shaft concrete mixing drums.
Physical & Workspace Demands
Capable of lifting heavy mechanical components (up to 50 lbs safely) and working comfortably in confined spaces (mixer drums) or at significant heights (silo filter platforms).
Comfortable operating in dusty, high-noise industrial environments, with the flexibility to cover emergency breakdown calls or night shifts during major continuous structural concrete pours.
