Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will manage accounting operations, maintain financial integrity, and ensure complete compliance with local tax laws and accounting standards. This role is responsible for general ledger oversight, balance sheet reconciliations, month-end/year-end closing processes, tax filings, and assisting with budgeting and operational financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Costing & Standard Cost Systems

• Establish, update, and maintain standard costs for raw materials, direct labour, and plant overhead.
• Build and refine cost allocation models for multi-site operational structures.
• Calculate actual operational unit costs (e.g., cost per ton extracted/processed) and compare them against historical and standard benchmarks.

1. Financial Reporting & General Ledger Operations

• Maintain accurate general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely financial reporting.
• Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for executive review.

1. Tax Compliance & Statutory Filings

• Prepare, review, and file all statutory tax returns (VAT, Withholding Tax, Payroll Tax, Income Tax) in full compliance with Ethiopian tax laws.
• Monitor changes in statutory regulations and ensure company operations remain compliant.
• Interface directly with revenue authorities, banks, and external regulatory bodies.

1. Internal Controls & Audit Facilitation

• Implement and enforce strict internal financial controls to safeguard company assets.
• Coordinate and facilitate annual internal and external financial audits, providing required documentation and schedules.

1. Payroll & Operational Accounts

• Process employee payroll and ensure correct deductions, site allowances, and tax withholdings.
• Monitor accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R), vendor invoicing, and cash flows.
• Oversee site expense reconciliations, operational advances, and petty cash settlements.

1. Budgeting & Financial Analysis

• Assist in preparing annual budgets, operational forecasts, and variance analysis reports.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to financial process improvement.
