Alema Koudijs Feed PLC is a joint venture between Alema Farms and Royal De Heus (Netherlands). We combine deep local market knowledge with one of the world's leading names in animal nutrition. We produce high-quality, affordable feed for commercial farms, cooperatives, and independent producers across Ethiopia, directly supporting livestock productivity and national food security.

We're looking for a Purchase Manager to take ownership of our agricultural commodity and raw material sourcing. This is a role for someone who understands that successful purchasing starts long before a purchase order is issued — with knowing the market, anticipating supply and price movements, building trusted supplier relationships, and making smart commercial decisions.

What you'll own

Market Intelligence & Commercial Insight

• Conduct detailed market research on agricultural commodities, raw materials, inputs, and by-products relevant to the company's purchasing needs.

• Monitor market trends, commodity prices, supply conditions, and developments that may affect purchasing decisions.

• Analyze seasonal patterns, weather trends, harvest cycles, and other factors affecting commodity availability, quality, and pricing.

• Provide timely market intelligence and recommendations to senior management.

Strategic Purchasing & Supply

• Develop purchasing strategies aligned with market conditions, production requirements, and company objectives.

• Build and maintain a strong network of farmers, suppliers, traders, government institutions, industry experts, and other key stakeholders.

• Identify new sourcing opportunities and develop alternative supply channels to strengthen supply security.

• Work closely with procurement, production planning, logistics, quality, and finance teams to ensure continuity of supply.

Supplier & Relationship Management

• Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with strategic suppliers and agricultural stakeholders.

• Assess supplier capabilities, reliability, pricing, quality, and commercial terms.

• Monitor competitive intelligence, including competitor sourcing practices and supplier relationships.

• Negotiate commercially attractive purchasing terms while maintaining required quality and supply reliability.

Planning, Budgeting & Performance

• Contribute to annual purchasing budgets and forecasts based on market intelligence and expected production requirements.

• Monitor purchasing performance against budget, market benchmarks, and business targets.

• Identify opportunities to reduce purchasing costs and improve supply reliability.

• Present market findings, purchasing recommendations, and key risks to senior management, production planners, and finance teams.

Job Requirements

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Business, Supply Chain, Economics, or a related field.

• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.

• Experience in agriculture, animal feed, flour milling, grain trading, agro-processing, or a related industry is strongly preferred.

• Strong understanding of Ethiopian agricultural commodity markets and supply chains.

• Strong negotiation, analytical, relationship-building, and commercial decision-making skills.

• Good computer skills, particularly Excel, Power BI, and Outlook.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both suppliers and senior management.
