Organization for Welfare to Your Development in Action (OWDA) is an Ethiopian resident charity organization registered with the FDRE Charities and Societies Agency under Certificate No. 0421 to operate in the Somali Regional State since 1999 GC. OWDA would like to announce the vacancy of the following position. Position Title: Psychiatric Nurses

Place of Work: Melkadida, Halloweyn, Kobo, Buramino, and Bokolmayo Refugee Health Centers.

Salary: As per OWDA Scale

Duration of Contract: Four months (4) with possible extension.

Job description: Under the supervision of the Senior Project Officer, the psychiatry nurse will play a crucial role in the mental health care system, providing support, treatment, and education to individuals struggling with mental health disorders. He/She will work in a variety of settings, from health centers to outpatient practices. The goal is to understand the underlying issues contributing to the patient’s mental health condition, whether it’s anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. A psychiatric nurse will use standardized tools and interviews to assess the severity of symptoms and develop an appropriate care plan with a professional code of conduct.

Reports to: Senior Project Officer

Main   Responsibilities

  • Assessing mental health issues: Evaluating patients’ mental and emotional states, as well as their ability to function in daily life, using appropriate assessment tools and techniques.
  • Developing and implementing treatment plans: Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to develop effective and evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Medication management: Administering and monitoring prescribed medications, ensuring that patients take them as directed, and reporting any adverse effects or concerns to the prescriber.
  • Providing psychotherapy and counseling services: Supporting patients through individual, group, or family therapy sessions, and encouraging self-reflection and self-management strategies for managing mental health symptoms.
  • Monitoring patient progress: Tracking patients’ progress throughout their treatment, adjusting treatment plans as needed, and facilitating appropriate referrals for additional care or services when necessary.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports timely to supervisor.
  • Perform related tasks as required.

Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge 

  • Degree in psychiatry; possessed at least 4-year experience of humanitarian context and Work.
  • Good communication skills with excellent knowledge of   computer reporting skills
  • Commitment to and understanding of OWDA’s aims, values, and principles 
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Interested in working in a remote area.
