Job Description
Organizational Background:
The Ethiopian Media Women Association (EMWA) is a non-governmental, non-partisan, and non-profit organization established in 1999. EMWA is dedicated to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment within the media sector and beyond. The association works to amplify the voices of women and girls, advocate for their rights, and increase their representation and participation in media content, production, and leadership.
EMWA engages in a range of activities including capacity building for women media professionals, gender-sensitive journalism training, advocacy against gender-based violence (GBV), and promoting ethical and inclusive media practices. The organization also implements media campaigns and community outreach programs aimed at challenging harmful gender norms and advancing the role of women in society.
Through partnerships with local and international stakeholders, EMWA strives to create a media landscape that is inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs and rights of women and girls across Ethiopia.
Position Summary:
The Project Assistant will support the planning, implementation, financial control, monitoring, reporting and promotion of project activities. This role involves both administrative and coordination responsibilities to ensure the smooth execution of project objectives. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and committed to supporting initiatives focused on adolescent mental health and communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Design and Implementation Support
- Lead the project designing, planning, implementation and documentation of projects;
- Consult and provide management information to the director and the executive board in project designing, planning, implementation and documentation of projects;
- Facilitate communication with project stakeholders, partners and beneficiaries;
- Guide the project team in donor mapping, assessing potential donors and maintain donor relationship;
- Coordinate the project implementation team;
- Work closely with the project and finance team to ensure project milestones are met on time and within budget;
- Ensure smooth day-to-day operations, monitor compliance with project plans, and provides timely updates to support informed decision-making;
- Maintain project documentation, including activity reports and meeting minutes;
- Provide support in administrative process;
Monitoring, Reporting and Learning
- Ensure the quality and timely collection and compilation of data for project monitoring and evaluation purposes;
- Oversight in documenting key learning and best practices;
- Lead the preparation of periodic progress reports, executive summaries, and documentation of best practices;
- Support the tracking of project timelines and deliverable;
Communication and Visibility
- Promote EMWA’s activities and accomplishments through various media outlets to increase visibility;
- Coordinate with communications staff to ensure project visibility in line with donor/partner branding requirements;
- Assist in promoting project results and lessons;
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including reports, presentations, and promotion materials;
- Maintain harmonious working relationships with staff, stakeholders, and partners;
- Maintain communication with members when appropriate and necessary;

Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and Master's degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Communications and journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within NGOs or development projects.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred:
- Experience working in gender-focused or media-related projects.
- Familiarity with donor-funded project requirements and reporting formats
