Basic Function of the Position

The Pharmaceutical Inventory Management Officer is responsible for managing pharmaceutical stock, including medicines, medical consumables, Laboratory Reagents, and related supplies. The role ensures proper storage, regulatory compliance, stock accuracy, prevention of expiries, and continuous availability of essential medicines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage receipt, storage, and issuance of pharmaceutical inventory including Laboratory Reagents.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and storage conditions (temperature, humidity, security).
  • Implement FEFO (First Expiry First Out) principles.
  • Monitor expiry dates and manage near-expiry stock.
  • Conduct regular stock counts and reconciliation.
  • Maintain accurate records in pharmacy inventory systems.
  • Coordinate with procurement for timely replenishment.
  • Monitor consumption trends and forecast needs.
  • Report stock variances and discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper segregation of controlled substances.
  • Prepare periodic inventory and consumption reports.
  • Support pharmacy and Laboratory audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned by Washington Healthcare PLC.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (BPharm).

Prior Work Experience

  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in pharmaceutical inventory or hospital pharmacy operations.

Job Knowledge

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical storage standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Understanding of FEFO principles and expiry management.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy inventory systems.
  • Knowledge of controlled drug handling requirements.
  • Pharmaceutical inventory management principles and best practices.
  • Proper storage, handling, and distribution of medicines and medical consumables.
  • Regulatory requirements related to pharmaceutical storage, expiry management, and controlled substances.
  • FEFO (First Expiry First Out) principles and expiry tracking.
  • Pharmacy inventory management systems and documentation procedures.
  • Basic understanding of medication brands, generic equivalents, therapeutic categories, and dosage forms.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory reagents, including storage requirements, shelf-life considerations, and usage coordination with laboratory services.
  • Internal policies, audit requirements, and reporting standards related to pharmaceutical inventory.

  • Proficiency in pharmacy inventory software and MS Office.
