About the Organization
NABU Ethiopia – The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union Ethiopia is a nationally registered civil society organization working in biodiversity conservation, sustainable natural-resource management, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. It operates in several regions of Ethiopia, including Southwest Ethiopia, and works closely with government institutions and local communities.
The organization currently has more than 88 staff members and implements donor-supported conservation and sustainable-development projects. Its work combines environmental protection with improving the livelihoods and resilience of local communities.
Vacancy: Para Surveyor
NABU Ethiopia is recruiting 6 Para Surveyors/Data Collectors for its project “Sustainable Garden Coffee Production and EUDR Compliance in Kaffa Zone, Southwest Ethiopia.” The project is supported mainly by BMZ and focuses, among other activities, on responsible land management and second-level rural land certification.

Main Purpose of the Position
The Para Surveyor will support the surveying, mapping, demarcation, data collection, verification, and registration of rural land parcels. The work will primarily be conducted using tablets, GPS, satellite/orthophoto imagery, and the MASREG (Mass Registration) mobile application. The position is therefore particularly suitable for graduates with backgrounds in Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, Land Administration, Natural Resource Management, or related fields.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will mainly:
- Survey and digitally demarcate rural land parcels.
- Identify and verify parcel boundaries together with landholders and local authorities.
- Use MASREG and tablet-based tools to collect spatial and landholder information.
- Capture landholder photographs and other required information.
- Use GPS where parcel boundaries cannot be clearly identified from imagery.
- Check that parcel polygons and associated information are accurate and complete.
- Identify and report disputed or problematic parcels.
- Synchronize collected information with the designated land-administration database/server.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of landholder and parcel information.
- Prepare daily and weekly field reports.
- Work closely with Kebele Land Administration Committees (KLACs), Kebele Administrations, woreda offices, landholders, and other stakeholders.
- The Para Surveyors will report to the NABU Ethiopia Southwest Regional Office (SWE RO) and the designated woreda-level Agriculture, Environment and Cooperative Development office (AECDO)/land administration focal person
- Meet an expected productivity level of parcels per working day, depending on field conditions.

Qualifications
The minimum requirement is a Bachelor's degree in:
- Surveying
- Geomatics
- Geography
- Natural Resource Management
- Land Administration
- Or another closely related field
Fresh graduates with zero professional experience are eligible, which makes this an important opportunity for recent graduates.
Candidates with knowledge or experience in GIS/GPS, surveying, participatory mapping, land administration, rural development, mobile data collection, satellite imagery, and community-based fieldwork will have an advantage.
Important Personal Requirements
Applicants should be prepared for extensive fieldwork, including travel between kebeles and potentially between woredas. Good communication, teamwork, accuracy, integrity, and the ability to work respectfully with rural communities are important.
Language: Fluency in Kaffa/Kaffi is highly valued. Working English is required, while Amharic is an advantage.

Important Conditions to Note
