About the project
The Participatory Agriculture for Climate Transformation (PACT) Program is funded by the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (UN-IFAD) and managed by the FDRE Ministry of Agriculture as the primary implementing partner. Under this program, Vita is executing the PACT Improved Cook stove Project, which aims to distribute household energy solutions across multiple regional states using a Community-Led Total Stoves approach to mitigate carbon emissions, reduce deforestation, and transform rural. livelihoods.
Position Summary
Vita is seeking a qualified, diligent, and experienced Project Accountant to manage financial transactions, budget compliance, reporting, and asset controls for the IFAD/PACT Cook stove project. Operating from the Addis Ababa Country Office, the Accountant will ensure that all expenditures align strictly with donor regulations (IFAD), partner guidelines (Ministry of Agriculture), local statutory frameworks, and Vita's internal financial controls manual.
Employment type: Full-time, regular one year contract (with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITY
- Periodically maintain bank balance and disburse in accordance with financial procedure and when duly authorized;
- Process any bank transfer, CPO, Check updated bank balance and collect bank advices, statements and cheques
- Properly prepare check payments based on approved payment request
- Keep financial records and process transaction on daily basis to ensure correctness and accuracy of cash and book balance;
- Follow up balances due on travel or other advance payment and reimbursement
- Reconcile cash inflow and outflows and report on same
- Comply with company financial policies and regulations, local, state, and federal accounting and financial regulations
- Ensure settlements of miscellaneous payment and utilities
- Incompliance with the government rules and procedures, deduct income tax, provident and pension, withholding tax and other related deductions and settlement with in the given period;
- Prepare fixed asset registration book for inventory control and reporting
- Perform others related duties assigned for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit;
- Assist in performing general ledger accounting functions are completed in an accurate and timely manner;
- Compile financial information files, records and deduction in a proper and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date accounting records for the IFAD/PACT project using Vita's recognized accounting software (AIQ).
- Conduct monthly variance analyses comparing actual expenditure against approved project budgets, reporting significant deviations to management.
- Prepare and facilitate regular bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Coordinate internal and external audit setups, preparing complete schedules, files, and vouchers for verification.
- Prepare periodic project financial statements, liquidity forecasts, and donor-specific financial reports in full alignment with IFAD requirements.
- Ensure strict cost-allocation procedures so that funds are utilized specifically for designated project interventions.
- Perform other duties as per immediate supervisor direction.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- BA degree in Accounting and Finance / Finance / Commerce
- Experience working with preferably International NGO sector
- At least 5 + years of experience as an accountant, project accountant, or senior-level finance officer
- Computer literacy in Microsoft word and Excel
- Software proficiency, ability to learn accounting software
