Job Description

Job Summary

The position holder (MHNT Nurse-Assistant) will provide integrated preventive, promotive and curative services for children, women and vulnerable populations through mobile health outreach services and support nutrition, immunization and disease prevention activities

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, HO from a recognized university/health college

  • Training in IMNCI, EPI, CMAM and emergency health is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in clinical management, emergency health/nutrition programs, MHNT, and community-based services

  • Experience working in remote or humanitarian settings preferred

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide integrated child health, nutrition, and immunization services in line with national guidelines and IMNCI protocols.

  • Assess, treat, and refer sick children, including management of common childhood illnesses and complicated cases.

  • Conduct growth monitoring, MUAC screening, malnutrition identification, SAM/MAM management support, and IYCF counseling.

  • Deliver routine immunization services, manage vaccine cold chain, and conduct defaulter tracing.

  • Promote preventive health, hygiene, sanitation, disease prevention, and community health awareness activities.

  •  Support disease surveillance, active case search, and risk communication/community engagement initiatives.

  • Ensure proper management of medical supplies, equipment, stock records, infection prevention, and waste management practices.

  • Provide emergency first aid, stabilization, referrals, and support outbreak response activities.

  • Maintain accurate patient records, HMIS data, and timely submission of weekly and monthly reports.

  • Promote child protection, safeguarding, gender equality, inclusion, and the rights of children and vulnerable groups in all program activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Safeguarding Children and Program Participants (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) 

  • Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed per the appropriate procedures.

  • Ensures that all staff in the unit/function/department are properly inducted on and understand their role in upholding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;

  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day-to-day work.

  • Ensures that Plan Ethiopia contributes to Plan International’s global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including making sure that relevant reporting and data are submitted.

Skills & Competencies

  • Extremely flexible, able to work independently, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.

  • Ability to work and create the partnership with key government and peer partners and stakeholders

Languages required:

  • Excellent English verbal and written skills.

  • Knowledge of local language (Afaan Oromoo) -mandatory
