Job Description

Position: Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Officer

Position Type: Full-t, one-year contract (with the possibility of extension)

Place of Work: Addis Ababa with expected frequent travel to regions as necessary

Number of Positions: 1

Position Summary

The IPC Officer will provide technical support for strengthening infection prevention and control systems, improving healthcare-associated infection prevention measures, and promoting compliance with national IPC guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for outbreak preparedness, readiness, investigation, containment, and response at national, regional, facility, and community levels.
  • Support implementation, monitoring, assessment, supportive supervision, and improvement planning of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programs in healthcare facilities.
  • Collect, analyze, and report IPC and outbreak-response data, and participate in healthcare facility risk assessments.
  • Develop technical guidance documents, training materials, and tools aligned with national and international IPC and outbreak response standards.
  • Deliver training, mentorship, and technical guidance to healthcare workers, IPC focal persons, facility staff, and regional teams to strengthen local capacity.
  • Facilitate rapid equipping and operational readiness of healthcare facilities for outbreak containment and emergency response.
  • Monitor compliance with IPC standards, protocols, and guidelines, and support corrective actions for quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to strengthen public health emergency

preparedness, outbreak response coordination, and healthcare system resilience.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing, Public Health, Medicine, Environmental Health, or related field.
  • Formal training in Infection Prevention and Control is preferred.
  • Specialized training in outbreak management, or infectious disease control preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in IPC, healthcare quality improvement, or public health programs.
  • Proven experience in training healthcare workers and developing IPC materials
  • Experience working in healthcare facilities or public health institutions.
  • Experience in participating in recent public health emergencies preparedness and response efforts

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of national and international IPC standards and guidelines.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multi-sectoral outbreak response activities.
  • Strong analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
