Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Industrial Engineer is responsible for improving productivity, efficiency, and quality within the garment production process. This involves analyzing work methods, developing standardized procedures, optimizing manpower and machine utilization, and ensuring cost-effective production while maintaining quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Planning and Efficiency Improvement
Study and analyze garment production processes for time, motion, and workflow efficiency.
Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each production activity.
Prepare and maintain operation breakdowns (OB), method studies, and layout plans for new styles.
Calculate and set Standard Minute Values (SMVs) for each garment operation.
Work closely with production and planning departments to ensure line balancing and target achievement.
Identify and eliminate bottlenecks to improve production flow and output.

  1. Work Study and Method Improvement

Conduct time and motion studies to determine accurate labor standards.

Propose and implement work aids, attachments, and workstation layouts to reduce fatigue and improve ergonomics.

Continuously evaluate methods for potential cost savings and productivity gains.

Train operators and line supervisors on improved work methods and efficiency practices.

  1. Capacity and Line Management

Plan and allocate machine and manpower resources according to style complexity and delivery targets.

Analyze line performance and provide daily, weekly, and monthly efficiency reports.

Ensure line balancing to achieve target efficiency and output.

Support style changeovers to minimize downtime and maintain production continuity.

  1. Quality and Process Optimization

Coordinate with the Quality Assurance team to ensure process control and product quality.

Analyze defects and rework data to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.

Implement lean manufacturing tools (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping).

Support compliance with ISO, WRAP, BSCI, or other audit standards.

  1. Cost and Performance Analysis

Analyze labor, machine, and material utilization to identify areas for cost reduction.

Calculate and monitor cost per minute (CPM), cost per piece, and efficiency variance.

Participate in pricing discussions by providing accurate SMVs and capacity analysis.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Garment Engineering, Textile Technology, or related field.

2 years of experience as an Industrial Engineer in a garment or apparel manufacturing environment

Technical Skills:
Knowledge of garment manufacturing processes (knits, woven, etc.)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and IE tools (e.g., GSD, Sew Easy, Pro-SMV).
Familiarity with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts.
