PAD is looking for a highly qualified, experienced, and results-oriented professional to lead its income-generating activities, drive business growth and profitability, and contribute to the organization’s long-term financial sustainability.
The IGA Manager is responsible for the overall management, growth, profitability, and sustainability of PAD’s income-generating business operations. This position leads the commercial enterprise as a professionally managed, market-oriented business that complements PAD’s core non-profit programs. The IGA Manager ensures accountability, financial discipline, and compliance, and contributes to PAD’s broader institutional sustainability.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in establishing profitable business opportunities and driving growth in a competitive market.
Job Summary:
The IGA Manager provides strategic leadership and comprehensive management of PAD’s profit-generating business enterprise. This role treats the IGA as a commercially driven entity with distinct operational plans, revenue targets, expenditure controls, financial performance metrics, customer and supplier relationships, asset management, staffing, and business development strategies.
The Manager oversees daily operations and drives strategic growth, ensuring the enterprise generates sustainable revenue, maintains healthy profit margins, effectively manages costs, safeguards organizational assets, and remains competitive in the market. Key responsibilities include identifying profitable business opportunities, conducting market and competitor analyses, developing and executing business plans, expanding the customer base, strengthening supplier relationships, and exploring new products, services, markets, and investment opportunities.
Additionally, the IGA Manager establishes robust systems for financial management, inventory and asset control, procurement, sales, marketing, human resources, risk management, and performance monitoring. Most importantly, the Manager ensures that governance, financial transactions, reporting, and resource utilization remain fully accountable to PAD management and comply with relevant laws, policies, and organizational procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The key roles and responsibilities for the IGA Manager include, but are not limited to:
Business Strategy and Growth
- Develop and implement a comprehensive business strategy and annual business plan for the IGA.
- Establish clear business objectives, revenue targets, profitability targets, growth plans, and performance indicators.
- Identify new and profitable business opportunities based on market demand, competition, customer preferences, and investment potential.
- Conduct regular market and competitor analysis to maintain the business’s competitiveness.
- Develop strategies for business expansion, diversification, customer acquisition, and market penetration.
- Periodically review the business model and recommend strategic adjustments to PAD management.
- Develop business proposals and investment plans for new commercial opportunities.
Business Operations and Management
- Provide overall management of the day-to-day operations of the IGA.
- Establish efficient systems and procedures for sales, purchasing, inventory, customer service, logistics, administration, and other business functions.
- Ensure uninterrupted and efficient delivery of products and/or services to customers.
- Establish operational standards and ensure consistent quality of products and services.
- Monitor operational efficiency and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs and improve productivity.
Ensure that IGA resources are used exclusively and appropriately for approved business purposes.
Financial Management and Profitability
- Take primary responsibility for the financial performance and profitability of the IGA.
- Develop annual and periodic business budgets, cash-flow projections, sales forecasts, and financial targets.
- Monitor revenues, operating costs, gross margins, net profit, cash flow, and other key financial indicators.
- Identify and implement measures to control costs and improve profitability.
- Ensure that all business income is properly recorded, deposited, accounted for, and reported.
- Work closely with PAD Finance to ensure accurate financial recording and timely financial reporting.
- Ensure that business expenditures are properly authorized, documented, reasonable, and aligned with approved budgets.
- Regularly analyse financial performance and provide management with recommendations for corrective action.
- Protect the financial interests and commercial assets of PAD.
Sales, Marketing and Business Development
- Develop and implement effective sales and marketing strategies to increase revenue and market share.
- Identify and develop new customer segments and commercial opportunities.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, distributors, service providers, and other business partners.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and establish mechanisms for addressing complaints and improving service quality.
- Develop appropriate pricing strategies based on market conditions, operating costs, competition, and desired profit margins.
- Explore opportunities for digital marketing, online sales, partnerships, distribution networks, and other channels for business growth.
- Track sales performance against targets and take timely action where performance falls below expectations.
Procurement, Inventory and Asset Management
- Ensure efficient and cost-effective procurement of goods, services, equipment, and other business inputs.
- Maintain appropriate supplier relationships and negotiate competitive prices and favorable terms.
- Ensure proper inventory management, stock control, reconciliation, and timely replenishment.
- Establish systems to minimize stock losses, wastage, damage, theft, and obsolete inventory.
- Ensure that all IGA assets are properly recorded, safeguarded, maintained, and used for authorized business purposes.
- Conduct regular stock and asset verification in collaboration with relevant PAD departments.
Human Resources and Team Management
- Lead, supervise, and manage IGA employees and other personnel assigned to the business.
- Define staff responsibilities, performance expectations, and measurable targets.
- Recruit and develop competent personnel in accordance with PAD policies and approved staffing structures.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to IGA staff.
- Promote a professional, customer-oriented, ethical, and performance-driven working culture.
- Ensure that staff costs remain appropriate to the scale and profitability of the business.
- Address performance and operational issues promptly and professionally.
- Business Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Establish a comprehensive business performance monitoring system.
- Prepare regular management reports covering sales, revenue, expenditure, profitability, cash flow, inventory, customers, operational performance, risks, and growth.
- Analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual business performance against approved targets.
- Provide evidence-based recommendations to PAD senior management regarding business decisions and investments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date business records and documentation.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations.
- Document business lessons, opportunities, challenges, and strategies for continuous improvement.
Risk Management and Compliance
- Identify, assess, and manage commercial, financial, operational, legal, reputational, and market risks.
- Ensure that the IGA complies with Ethiopian commercial laws, tax requirements, licensing requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Ensure that all business transactions are conducted transparently, ethically, and professionally.
- Develop appropriate internal controls to minimize fraud, corruption, theft, conflicts of interest, and financial losses.
- Ensure compliance with PAD policies and management decisions applicable to the IGA.
- Immediately report significant financial, operational, legal, or reputational risks to senior management.
Governance and Relationship with PAD
- Maintain a clear operational and financial distinction between the IGA and PAD’s non-profit programs.
- Ensure that the IGA operates with its own business plan, revenue model, operational systems, and performance targets.
- Provide regular reports to PAD senior management and/or the governing body on the financial and operational performance of the business.
- Seek appropriate management approval for major investments, borrowing, disposal of significant assets, business expansion, or other strategic decisions in accordance with PAD’s delegation of authority.
- Ensure that any transfer of funds, assets, services, or resources between the IGA and PAD programs is properly authorized, documented, and accounted for.
- Advise PAD leadership on the business’s profitability, growth potential, investment requirements, and strategic direction.
- Ensure that the IGA strengthens PAD’s institutional financial sustainability without compromising the organization’s non-profit mandate, governance, or reputation.
Strategic Contribution and Institutional Sustainability
- Identify opportunities through which the IGA can generate sustainable unrestricted income for PAD, subject to PAD’s approved governance and financial arrangements.
- Develop long-term strategies to increase the commercial value and sustainability of the business.
- Explore potential partnerships, investments, franchises, joint ventures, or other commercially viable opportunities where appropriate and approved.
- Promote innovation, efficiency, entrepreneurship, and continuous business improvement.
- Provide strategic advice to PAD management on business opportunities and potential investments.
- Contribute to strengthening PAD’s overall financial resilience through successful and responsible commercial operations.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management
Requirements
- Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Business Management, Marketing Management, Management, Accounting and Finance, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, Entrepreneurship, or a related field; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Experience: At least 7 years of relevant professional experience.
