Job Description
Role Description: The Head of Corporate Relations is a senior leader responsible for leading and managing all corporate communications, public relations, and stakeholder engagement activities. The role oversees relationships with media, government bodies, industry associations, and key community partners, ensuring alignment with Habesha Breweries’ brand, culture, reputation, and business objectives.
The role provides strategic advice to the CEO and senior leadership team on corporate positioning, reputation, stakeholder engagement, and communication risks. It also leads the development and execution of corporate communications strategies, manages reputational and crisis-related matters, and ensures consistent, culturally sensitive, and compliant communication across all channels.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Communications Strategy
- Own the corporate relations strategy, stakeholder map, annual plan and corporate-relations risk agenda.
- Develop annual PR and corporate communications plans, campaigns and initiatives, in alignment with business objectives.
- Ensure consistent corporate messaging across internal and external communication channels.
- Translate complex business priorities into clear, compelling communication messages.
Media & Public Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, media houses, industry associations and other relevant stakeholders.
- Manage media inquiries, interviews, press conferences, press releases and media engagements.
- Prepare press releases, media statements, talking points, speeches, Q&As and executive communications.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to strengthen the company's visibility and reputation in relevant media.
Government & Regulatory Affairs, Reputation & Issues Management
- Lead strategic engagement with government bodies, regulators, policymakers and industry associations.
- Monitor public perception, media coverage and emerging reputational issues affecting the company.
- Develop and maintain crisis and issues communication plans and coordinate the communication response during reputational or business-critical situations.
- Advise senior management on potential communication risks and appropriate responses.
- Ensure timely, accurate and consistent communication during critical incidents, and coordinate early-warning, escalation and cross-functional response to material risks.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
- Develop and maintain relationships with government institutions, regulators, industry bodies, community representatives, partners and other strategic stakeholders.
- Set the framework for brewery-level community engagement and CSR, while brewery management retains responsibility for day-to-day local execution.
- Support corporate events, stakeholder engagements, community initiatives and high-profile company activities, including corporate visits, media events and stakeholder forums.
Content & Executive Communications
- Develop high-quality corporate content for websites, social media, newsletters, annual reports, presentations and other communication platforms.
- Support senior leaders with speeches, presentations, executive messages and key talking points.
- Ensure all external corporate communications reflect the company's values, positioning and tone of voice.
PR Events & Visibility
- Plan and coordinate corporate PR events, press conferences, product/company announcements and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Identify opportunities to increase the company's corporate visibility and thought leadership.
- Ensure effective media and stakeholder coverage of key corporate events and initiatives.
Digital & Social Media Communications
- Work closely with Marketing and Digital teams to ensure alignment between corporate PR and digital communications.
- Monitor corporate social media conversations and identify reputational opportunities and risks.
- Support the development of corporate digital campaigns and thought-leadership content.
Monitoring, Reporting & Budget Management
- Monitor media coverage and measure the effectiveness and impact of PR activities.
- Prepare regular PR and corporate communications reports for management, including the monthly Corporate Relations dashboard.
- Manage PR agencies, suppliers and external communication partners where applicable.
- Develop and manage the corporate PR budget to ensure effective use of resources.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business Administration or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in corporate communications, public relations, media relations or a similar senior role.
- Experience in a multinational, FMCG, manufacturing, consumer goods or other corporate environment is an advantage.
- Proven experience managing media relations, corporate reputation and external communications.
- Experience working with senior executives, government bodies and external stakeholders.
