Job Description
DEDE Bottle Factory PLC is an emerging bottle manufacturer dedicated to high-quality, sustainable production. Located in Debre Birhan, with a contact office in Addis Ababa, our state-of-the-art facility is currently in the advanced project phase. Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the job is to oversee and manage the mechanical maintenance activities within the organization, ensuring that all mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery operate efficiently and safely in accordance with scheduled maintenance plans. This role involves planning and scheduling maintenance activities, leading a team of technicians, enforcing safety compliance, and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. The Mechanical Maintenance Head ensures preventive and predictive maintenance strategies are effectively implemented to reduce downtime, optimize performance, and extend the lifespan of critical equipment in the glass manufacturing process.
Major duties and Responsibilities
· Planning, direction and management of the overall mechanical maintenance system of the company assets
· Develops maintenance strategies to improve mechanical performance and minimize downtime.
· Develops and implements Periodic Preventive & Predictive maintenance plans to ensure continuous operations.
· Coordinates with production teams to minimize disruptions during maintenance activities.
· Develops SPOs, WI, procedures, policies and inspection checklists for the mechanical Maintenance
· Supervises mechanical maintenance staffs, assigning tasks and monitoring performance as well as provides training and mentorship to enhance technical skills and efficiency.
· Enforces strict safety protocols for mechanical maintenance operations according to the company’s food and safety procedures
· Ensures compliance with industry regulations related to workplace and equipment safety.
· Diagnoses mechanical system failures and implement corrective measures and provides rapid solutions to emergency breakdowns affecting production efficiency.
· Prepares the departmental KPIs and evaluate the maintenance team according in a regular interval.
· Oversees procurement and stock management of mechanical components and optimizes resource utilization to prevent shortages or excess inventory.
· Utilizes predictive maintenance tools to anticipate failures and optimize equipment lifespan.
· Promotes a strong safety culture among team members through training, communication, and enforcement of safety procedures.
· Conducts periodic employee performance appraisals and provides reasonable feedback to ensure further improvements in future performance.
· Ensures that strategies, policies, procedures, plans, annual targets, etc. are clearly and timely disseminated to employees under his/her supervision.
· Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the immediate.
Requirements
Required Knowledge and skills (Competence)
Education
· Bachelor’s degree/MSc in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
Experience:
· Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in glass manufacturing or beverage industry out of which 4 years in supervisory position.
Skills
· Excellent communication skills for reporting, coordinating with teams, and training staff.
· Expertise in mechanical systems maintenance for glass production equipment.
· Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies.
· Ability to lead and supervise maintenance teams to ensure operational efficiency.
· Familiarity with workplace safety regulations and industrial compliance requirements.
