MELCA-Ethiopia, a non-governmental organization, invites qualified and experienced applicants for the following position under the MaYEA (Mass Youth Employment in Apiculture) Program, implemented in partnership with IIRR and SOS Sahel Ethiopia, with support from MasterCard Foundation.

Position: Gender, Youth and safeguarding Officer

Duty Station: Mizan Aman
Employment Type: Project-based
Salary: Negotiable


Key Responsibilities

  • Mainstream gender equality, women’s empowerment, youth participation, and social inclusion (GESI) across all phases of the project cycle.

  • Support project and Woreda teams to identify and address gender norms, inclusion barriers, and safeguarding risks to ensure safe, equitable, and meaningful participation of all target groups.

  • Serve as the Safeguarding and PSEAH focal person for the project, ensuring effective prevention measures, confidential reporting channels, survivor-centered referral pathways, and appropriate follow-up of safeguarding concerns.

  • Lead capacity building initiatives on GESI, safeguarding, and safe programming for staff, and relevant stakeholders at cluster & district level.

  • Ensure full compliance with national laws, MELCA-Ethiopia policies, and partner safeguarding standards and requirements.

  • Work with project teams to generate and use evidence for learning, reporting, and decision-making on GESI, youth inclusion, and safeguarding outcomes.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • MA/bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies, & Human Rights. 

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in gender mainstreaming, social inclusion, protection, or safeguarding.

  • Strong knowledge of gender-responsive or gender Transformative Programming, PSEAH and safeguarding principles.
