About the Organization

Tamra for Social Development Organization (TSD) is a local Civil Society Organization established in 1998. TSD operates across Addis Ababa, Oromia, Sidama, Central, and Southern Ethiopia, focusing on youth empowerment, peace building, gender development, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), climate justice, and sustainable livelihoods.

Position Summary

The Gender and SRH Thematic Officer will lead the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of gender equality and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) programs within TSD. The position holder will coordinate field activities, engage local health structures and community networks, manage project resources, facilitate capacity-building initiatives, ensure compliance with donor requirements, and contribute to the successful achievement of project objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of gender-focused and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) program activities, ensuring timely and budget-compliant execution.
  • Conduct comprehensive gender analyses and needs assessments to support gender-responsive project planning and alignment with TSD's strategic goals.
  • Develop detailed work plans, timelines, and budgets for thematic project activities in collaboration with project managers and Head Office Thematic Coordinators.
  • Facilitate capacity-building initiatives, training sessions, and community dialogues on SRHR, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and youth health for staff, partners, and community members.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with local health offices, health facilities, community leaders, women’s groups, and partner CSOs.
  • Ensure effective allocation and utilization of project resources, including logistics, materials, and finances.
  • Assist in collecting quantitative and qualitative monitoring and evaluation data, tracking project progress using established indicators.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports, documenting program results, best practices, success stories, and lessons learned.
  • Implement quality assurance measures, safeguarding practices, and feedback mechanisms to enhance project quality and beneficiary relevance.
  • Monitor project budgets and track expenditures to ensure financial alignment, transparency, and accountability.
  • Execute other related tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Public Health, Social Work, Development Studies, Sociology, or related fields.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of relevant experience for Bachelor's degree holders, or 1 to 5 years for Master's degree holders, in gender equality, SRHR, or women’s rights programming within an NGO/CSO setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in community mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and gender-mainstreaming program implementation.
  • Strong skills in project planning, report writing, data collection, and basic budget tracking.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and training facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Language: Fluency in English and Amharic is required; knowledge of Afaan Oromo and other local languages in TSD operational areas is strongly preferred.
