Basic Function of the Position
The Facility Management and Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of all buildings, utilities, infrastructure, equipment, and facility support systems. The position oversees preventive and corrective maintenance activities, manages facility service contractors, monitors compliance with safety standards, and ensures the facility environment supports organizational operations effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance activities for buildings, utilities, and facility systems to ensure continuous and efficient operations.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintain records of facility assets, equipment performance, and maintenance activities.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, water supply, and backup power systems.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors and service providers to ensure quality work and compliance with contractual requirements.
- Train, mentor, and supervise Junior Maintenance Officers, ensuring adherence to maintenance procedures, safety standards, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, environmental standards, and building codes.
- Support facility improvement, renovation, and infrastructure projects and recommend measures to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Monitor maintenance expenditures, assist in budget preparation, and implement cost-control initiatives.
- Prepare maintenance reports, maintain documentation, and track key performance indicators.
- Respond to facility emergencies and coordinate corrective actions to minimize operational disruptions.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Facility Management, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
Prior Work Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in facility management, maintenance management, or building operations.
- Experience in healthcare facilities is an advantage.
Job Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of facility maintenance, utilities, and asset management.
- Ability to plan preventive maintenance and troubleshoot building systems.
- Experience supervising contractors and coordinating maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
Skills and Abilities
- Leadership skills in training and supervising junior maintenance staff.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and reporting abilities.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies.
- Familiarity with CMMS and basic computer applications.
