Job Description

Women Empowerment Action (WE-Action) is a feminist women's rights organization that has been operating across various regions in Ethiopia, including Amhara, Oromia, Southern Ethiopia, Central Ethiopia, and Tigray, for the past 30 years. WE-Action has four strategic goals: combating gender inequality, promoting gender-equitable and sustainable livelihoods, ensuring protection and lifesaving support, and achieving organizational excellence. WE-Action is currently seeking a competent Driver Mechanic.

  1. Description of the position

Job title: Driver/Mechanic

Number required: 1

Duty Station: Addis Ababa with frequent travel to project site

Accountable to: Finance & Admin Manager   

Duration: One Year with possibility of extension based on job performance

Salary: As per the organization’s scale

  • JOB SUMMARY: 

The Driver will have an overall responsibility of driving vehicles and  keeping the organization’s vehicles in good condition including minor maintenance of vehicles and perform liaison works as per the office regulation and as stipulated in this job description.

  • GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensures that the vehicle is utilized for the sole purpose of the organization's work and comply with strictly.
  • Ensure that W-Action Ethiopia office’s policy with Non-Smoking and Drug Free policy is upheld within the vehicle.
  • Follow up the vehicle is equipped with the necessary safety and short term maintenance equipment.
  • Responsible to have all relevant and up to date certification/documentation on hand while on assignment.
  • Ensures that the necessary appliances and First Aid kit are readily available in the vehicle in good condition and communicate any gaps identified for immediate stocking.
  • Ensures proper cleanliness of assigned vehicles
  • Responsible to drive the vehicle assigned in a safe way, with strict observance of traffic rules and regulations and the organization's internal policy.
  • Responsible for  the timely recording of official trips as per the office’s rules,
  • Follow-up scheduled insurance, service period and annual inspection of assigned vehicles and report to supervisor
  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance and checkup of the car, performs minor repair & ensures the safety of the car all the times.
  • Responsible for service maintenance follow-up that are carried out by the contracted garage and update immediate supervisor for any administration action.
  • Responsible to distributes/collect letters, packages, & delivery of project documents on behalf of the organization and checks mails in the post office daily & perform related liaison works
  • Assist in the settlement of monthly utility bills (telephone, internet, etc.) or any associated payments
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

  • Able to document safeguarding concerns, and maintain appropriate record-keeping, recording the wishes and views of the adult or child at risk, differentiating between fact and opinion.
  • Gather feedback and complaints on any concerns of the project implementation and organization and formally document and report back to field offices with a confidential and secure manner.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE           

  • Renewed 3rd grade driving license
  • Diploma in mechanic or related Fields  
  • Minimum of (3) Three years as driver and in handling different liaising activities and experience with NGO’s.

  • Good knowledge of safety and security standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in local language   
  • Ability to effectively work in a team.
  • High level of integrity and honesty, etc.
  • A good track of performance in driving , vehicle maintenance and liaising activities
