Job Description

The Customer Service/Physician Attendant at Teklehaimanot General Hospital serves as the vital first point of contact, ensuring a smooth, safe, and welcoming experience for every patient. The Attendant is responsible for delivering exceptional front-desk support, assisting physicians with patient preparation, and managing the flow of appointments to ensure efficiency.     Key Responsibilities
  1. Customer Service & Reception Duties
  • Patient Greeting and Check-in: Warmly greet patients and visitors, manage the check-in/check-out process, and ensure a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Communication: Answer and screen high-volume phone calls, retrieve voicemails, and relay clear, accurate messages to clinical staff.
  • Scheduling and Registration: Schedule appointments, pre-register patients, and verify insurance coverage as needed.
  • Patient Navigation: Provide directions, escort patients to exam rooms or other departments, and assist with wheelchair transportation to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Administrative Support: Perform general clerical duties, including data entry into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), managing documents, and maintaining a clean, organized front office area.
  1. Physician/Clinical Attendant Duties
  • Patient Preparation: Assist patients to exam rooms, record medical history and current medications, confirm the purpose of the visit, and record data in the EMR.
  • Clinical Support (as needed): May assist with basic procedures such as taking vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse) and performing basic vision or muscle function checks (depending on specialty).
  • Patient Flow: Manage the schedule to ensure the clinic runs smoothly and efficiently, demonstrating urgency with the patient's and physician's time.
  • Equipment and Supplies: Assist with the cleaning, sterilization, and setup of medical instruments and equipment.
  • Specimen Handling: May collect and transport specimens, reports, and requisitions between departments.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in a customer service role, preferably in a high-traffic, confidential environment like healthcare.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Customer Service: A professional, patient-focused attitude with the ability to remain courteous under pressure.
    • Computer Literacy: Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and other office equipment.
    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Multitasking: Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks in a busy, interruption-prone environment.
    • Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion and confidentiality
