Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The Creative Designer is DKT Ethiopia’s lead visual thinker. The role translates business, product, and campaign strategy into strong, distinctive visual concepts, and owns the visual expression of the DKT Ethiopia corporate brand and its product brands across digital, print, trade, and corporate touchpoints.

The immediate focus is digital content and social media campaigns that engage target audiences—especially youth—in support of SBCC and marketing objectives. Over time, the role grows into full brand stewardship: corporate identity, product and packaging design, trade materials, and partner- and donor-facing communications. The designer is expected to use AI-assisted creative tools confidently to move faster and explore more ideas, without compromising craft, cultural relevance, or brand integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Concept Development & Strategic Design
  • Translate business, product, and campaign strategy into clear visual concepts—from a written brief to a creative direction the organization can rally behind
  • Develop and present creative options (mood boards, key visuals, concept boards) with a clear rationale linking design choices to the audience, the product and the business objective
  • Own the concept from idea through to final artwork, across digital, print and physical formats
  • Lead visual concepts for new product launches, repositioning of existing brands and flagship campaigns
  1. Brand Identity & Corporate Design
  • Act as custodian of the DKT Ethiopia corporate identity and product brand identities; maintain, document and evolve brand guidelines and templates
  • Design corporate and institutional materials: presentations, proposals, annual and donor reports, event and exhibition branding, signage, merchandise and internal communications
  • Design and adapt product packaging, labels, point-of-sale and trade materials in coordination with the Trade team and in line with regulatory requirements
  • Ensure a coherent visual system across corporate, product and program brands so every touchpoint is recognizably DKT Ethiopia
  1. Digital Content & Campaign Production
  • Design high-quality visuals for:
    • Social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)
    • Campaign materials (digital banners, posters, infographics)
    • Websites, digital ads, and email campaigns
  • Develop multimedia content: video, animation, GIFs, short-form and motion graphics
  • Adapt campaign concepts and materials for different platforms and audiences, and support rollout in coordination with the Marketing Officer
  • Create engaging, culturally relevant content for youth audiences that aligns with SRH messaging standards, and support content calendars
  1. AI-Enabled Creative Workflow
  • Use generative AI tools (image, video, motion and layout assistants) for ideation, rapid prototyping, variant generation and production—choosing when AI adds value and when handcraft is the better route
  • Build and maintain prompt libraries, style references and templates that keep AI-generated output on-brand and consistent
  • Apply responsible-use standards: no misleading depictions, respect for image rights and consent, cultural appropriateness, and disclosure where required
  • Stay current on AI and design tools and bring practical improvements to the team’s workflow
  1. Quality Assurance & Production
  • Review and refine all creative outputs before publication or print; prepare production-ready files to correct specifications
  • Brief, guide and quality-check external agencies, printers, photographers and production vendors
  • Maintain the organization’s asset library, templates and source files
  1. Collaboration & Innovation
  • Work closely with the Head of Marketing (strategic communication direction, brand concept, packaging designs, etc), Marketing Officer (campaign execution), and the Trade, Sales and Program teams (field materials)
  • Support senior management with visual materials for partner, government and donor engagements
  • Track digital, design and social media trends and propose new ways to communicate SRH messages visually

Key Deliverables / KPIs

  • Strength and strategic fit of visual concepts (first-round approval rate, adoption by leadership and partners)
  • Brand consistency across digital, corporate, product and trade touchpoints
  • Quality and timeliness of creative outputs against agreed briefs and deadlines
  • Engagement rates on digital content and contribution to campaign performance
  • Efficiency gains from AI-assisted production (turnaround time, volume of variants, vendor cost)
  • Up-to-date brand guidelines, templates and asset library

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media or a related field
  • 4–6 years of professional design experience, in a creative agency or in-house, including demonstrable brand identity and corporate design work alongside digital content
  • A strong portfolio that shows original concept development from a brief—not only execution—across both digital and print/brand formats
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro) and Figma or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI creative tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, Runway or similar) and a working knowledge of their limitations
  • Working knowledge of print production, packaging artwork and pre-press requirements
  • Ability to present and defend creative concepts to senior management and partners
  • Experience in FMCG, health, or social marketing is an advantage

Technical Skills

  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro); Figma
  • Generative AI tools for image, video and motion, including prompt design
  • Brand systems: logo, typography, color, layout and design-system documentation
  • Video editing, animation and motion graphics
  • Social media platforms and content formats; web and digital design fundamentals
  • Print, packaging and production specifications

Core Competencies

  • Conceptual and strategic thinking—connecting business intent to visual ideas
  • Creativity and visual storytelling
  • Brand thinking and consistency
  • AI fluency and curiosity for new tools
  • Attention to detail and quality
  • Communication and presentation of ideas
  • Adaptability, time management and collaboration
