Cost Accountant

Purpose of the Job

To enhance profitability and cost efficiency across the organization by conducting product costing, variance analysis, budget monitoring and management reporting and by providing actionable insights to business units and corporate management.

Key result Areas & Responsibilities:

Product Costing and Inventory Valuation

• Develop and maintain standard costing models for products across business units, ensuring accurate calculation of raw material, labor and overhead components.
• Analyze actual production costs against standards, identifying variances and investigating root causes in collaboration with operations and finance teams.
• Assist in inventory valuation, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and accurate reflection of costs in financial statements.
• Support Periodic physical inventory counts and reconciliation of inventory records to cost ledgers. 

Budgeting and Cost Control

• Coordinate the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, consolidating inputs from business units and ensuring alignment with corporate targets.
• Monitor actual expenditures against approved budgets, preparing variance analysis reports and highlighting areas requiring management attention.
• Assist in developing cost control initiatives, including analysis of overheads, operational expenses, and cost drivers to identify efficiency improvements.
• Prepare regular cost reports and dashboards for management, providing insights into cost performance and trends.

Management Reporting and Decision Support

• Prepare monthly management reports, including analysis of profitability, cost performance and key operational metrics.
• Conduct ad–hoc financial analysis to support strategic decisions, including investment appraisals, make-or-buy evaluations and pricing recommendations.
• Support business units with financial data and analysis to optimize resource allocation and operational efficiency.
• Develop and maintain financial models to forecast costs, margins and profitability under various scenarios.

 Process Improvement and Systems Support

• Identify opportunities to enhance costing and management accounting processes, systems and data accuracy.
• Collaborate with IT and ERP teams to ensure costing modules are properly configured and utilized.
• Assist in the implementation of cost accounting systems and tools to improve data visibility and analysis.
• Provide training and guidance to business unit staff on cost management principles and reporting requirements.

Compliance and Audit Support

• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies in all costing and management accounting activities.
• Support internal and external audits by providing cost-related documentation, schedules and explanations.
• Maintain organized records of cost analyses, budgets and management reports for audit and reference purposes.
