CALL FOR TENDER – CONSULTANCY

NABU Ethiopia invites qualified individual consultants, multidisciplinary consulting firms, universities, colleges, and research institutions to submit proposals for:

Consultancy for Developing a Training Manual on Sustainable Biodiversity Use, Climate Adaptation, and Enset Landscape Establishment.

Background Information

NABU Ethiopia is a legally registered, locally governed civil society organization working with government, research institutions, development partners, and communities to promote biodiversity conservation, sustainable natural resource management, climate resilience, and sustainable development across Ethiopia.

 Under the SYMBIOTIC Project, NABU Ethiopia seeks a qualified consultant, consulting firm, or eligible research/higher education institution to develop a practical and evidence-based training manual on “Best-Practice On-Site Examples on Sustainable Biodiversity Use and Climate Adaptation: Enset Landscape Establishment,” with a particular focus on Kaffa Zone, Southwest Ethiopia.

 The purpose of the assignment is to translate scientific evidence, assessment findings, indigenous knowledge, and field-tested practices into a practical training package for extension agents, government technical personnel, subject-matter specialists, and community-level actors, addressing key challenges in Enset biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, production, disease management, and post-harvest handling.

 Scope of the Consultancy

The selected consultant/institution will develop a practical, evidence-based training manual focusing on:

  • Sustainable Enset landscape establishment and agroforestry
  • Conservation of Enset landrace diversity
  • Climate-resilient Enset production
  • Enset disease and pest management, including Enset Bacterial Wilt
  • Improved post-harvest handling and processing
  • Integration of indigenous/local knowledge
  • Gender equality and social inclusion
  • Stakeholder validation and Training of Trainers (ToT)

Requirements

Key Qualifications

The lead consultant or proposed team should have:

  • Minimum MSc in Agronomy, Agroforestry, Biodiversity Conservation, Horticulture, Plant Protection, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Agriculture, or a related field; PhD is an advantage.
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in Enset, biodiversity, agroforestry, climate adaptation and/or related areas.
  • Experience developing training manuals and conducting participatory stakeholder consultations.
  • Strong English technical writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Kaffa/Southwest Ethiopia context is highly desirable.

Duration

10 calendar weeks from the effective date of the contract.
